Frequently Asked Questions- DO I NEED A RESERVATION?
- We always emphasize making a reservation. The restaurant gets to maximum capacity many days! Our online reservation system is just three quick clicks!
- IS THE AFTERNOON TEA EXPERIENCE SHARABLE?
- The Afternoon Tea experience is a three tiered tray with four courses designed for one. Offering many selections, each portion is bite sized. It begins with hot tea and scones. The tiered tray is four small appetizers, five finger sandwiches, and four miniature desserts. Should you share, each person would not be able to try each item. For example, the chilled shrimp cocktail is one piece of shrimp. The experience is a meal by itself for one.
- DO YOU HOST LARGE GROUPS FOR SPECIAL EVENTS LIKE SHOWERS, GRADUATIONS, ETC?
- We absolutely do host large groups! Our seven dining rooms offer exclusive spaces for your guests to be served and share special occasions.
- WHERE DO I PARK?
- We have a free surrounding parking lot next to the Dent House. Additionally, parking is available on the street around the front circle and on the lawn when overflow is necessary.
- WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
- Anything you like! We've noticed guests dressing up and dressing down. Whatever your occasion, dress comfortably and be prepared to help yourself to any number of hats we have available to share.
- DO YOU HAVE VEGETARIAN AND GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS?
- Our menu is coded with V for vegetarian, and GF for Gluten Free options for your convenience.
- CAN WE BRING A CAKE?
- Absolutely! We simply ask for all outside baked goods to come from bakeries, knowing that the Department of Health maintains proper sanitation in those establishments. Cake cutting and serving on our china is $1 per guest. Additionally, we have hat cakes in three flavors available to serve up to 20 guests for $35.
- ARE YOU HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE?
- We are! We have a lift to the left of our back porch. Please call for assistance when you arrive and we will be standing at attention to help you operate the handicap lift at the rear entrance. 423.521.4TEA (4832)
- CAN WE BRING A BOTTLE OF WINE?
- Polly Claire's is fully licensed and offers a variety of wines by the bottle or glass, champagne, as well as cocktails. It is not necessary to bring your own bottle of wine.

My sister and I brought some of our granddaughters as a belated Christmas gift. The restaurant was nicely decorated and we enjoyed that. The tea was good too. However, the food was sub par. It was costly and disappointing. The crab cakes were very salty and couldn’t be finished. The tomato bisque was good but the quiche was dry snd tasteless. I didn’t finish it either. It was not a wonderful experience and I would not return. I didn’t say anything while there because I didn’t want the girls to know how I felt.

We have only been to Polly Claire’s twice. The first experience was amazing. It was last Summer, just as COVID restrictions were being lifted. Even though we didn’t have hats, my daughter and I enjoyed a full team room (tables spaced apart).
This time, I tried to book online 3 times, called twice before Mother’s Day and for the weekend after, and it showed no availability. When I called, the person who returned my voicemail said those had been very busy weekends and was told the online reservation system would help me determine if vacancies were available. So I then made a reservation online for two weekends ahead. I checked back later, one day before the reservation to see if any other times were available (our plans that day had been changed) only to find that EVERY other time slot showed no availability. Going on the advice I had been given by the staff who returned my voicemail earlier, we decided to keep our original reservation and make arrangements to accommodate. When we arrived, the dining areas were almost completely vacant and remained that way for the entire meal. We were there for almost an hour and a half, I believe. We were also seated in a (darker) corner over an AC VENT, while much prettier, brighter seats next to sunny windows were available. That wasn’t a huge deal. We figured we were one of the first to arrive and that those other sunnier tables would soon be occupied, but during our whole meal, they remained empty as well as our dining room with the exception of one gentleman eating alone in the corner. The combination of the empty, silent dining area, darker corner and AC vent and two 8 year old girls just didn’t add up to an enjoyable experience. Everyone was very friendly, the food was timely and delicious. I just wonder why it was not possible to find a later available reservation online when on the day we were there, we only saw two other customers arrive during our meal, and also why we were seated in a dark corner… it was just odd.

Bethany is the best. My visits to Chattanooga to see family I always end up here at least one day of my trip. Mom loves it when I take her with me. This trip I also took my grandsons, ages 11 & 6. They loved it and want to know when I am coming back to visit so they can go again. I look forward to this part of my trip. I live in AZ and have no place like this here.

Our reservation was for 1:30. Once being seated our server told us the restaurant would close promptly at 3:00. I noticed that around 2:50 when we were gathering us our things the server was quietly nudging other customers in the room to leave by 3:00. I thought all of this was inappropriate for this type of restaurant. Maybe a fast food place but not somewhere were the bill for 2 people was almost $100.

Polly Claire's still makes afternoon tea special, in spite of the pandemic. The service and ambiance were great, and everyone at our table had a great time.
This was my second time there, and the food was just not as good as it was the first time. The scone and shortbread were great, as were the tomato tart and the cucumber sandwich. Nothing else stood out, though, and the egg salad and banana pudding were downright bland. But who really cares? It was an outing with friends, and we had tea and finger foods that we didn't have to make--everything else is a minor detail.

We had a very enjoyable time, as always. The service was excellent, the tea was delicious, and we had a very relaxing visit. Favorite foods were definitely the cucumber sandwich and the little cheese/bacon tart. The ONLY constructive criticism the two of us have would be a desire for the egg salad to have a little more flavor. Especially with everything else having such distinct flavors, it is just always very bland. A little garlic or even salt would be amazing.

We love Polly Claire's. It is a 2 hr drive for us, so it is a real treat for us to eat there, and one that is usually reserved to celebrate special occasions. Our experience this trip was not as special as it has always been in the past. The servers seemed less experienced and less confident, thus unable to contribute much to the experience. The quality of the food, as well as the portion size of the afternoon tea also seemed compromised. Im.sure rising costs, Covid, staffing issues, etc has impacted Polly Claire's like most businesses, and we still enjoyed our time- but it lacked the luster we typically experience.

My friend and I used a school coupon for afternoon tea. We did not receive all of the "nibblers" which are listed as one of the courses on the menu. So basically we did not receive a fourth of the courses. I don't know if it was because we used a coupon or if it was an oversight or if they have changed their menu items.

Our server, Kaitlin, was great. We also met another server in the same dining room who was very pleasant. Both ladies made us feel welcome and valued as customers, so top marks for your servers. The ambiance was nice; everything was spotless; the china was lovely. We arrived exactly at 11:00, and there was one other party in the dining room, so the restaurant was not crowded. Our drink and food orders were taken simultaneously within less than 5 minutes, and our drinks were brought out in a relatively timely manner. Then, we waited and waited and waited for our food. When it finally arrived (after noon), the mashed potatoes on top of my husband's shepherd's pie were cold and the bottom of the dish was extremely hot, so it had to be mixed to even out between the cold and hot. It was not very tasty. My husband also had lobster-bisque soup (which came with the meal for an up charge), and he ordered a scone. Both of these items were fine. I ordered the chicken, pecan, fruit salad. It was a sizable portion and was okay. It would have been better without the chicken, which tasted a little old. Having to wait almost an hour to receive our entrees after getting our drinks meant my tea was stone cold. You have a lovely establishment and friendly, hard-working servers, and I'm sure you have a lot of time and money invested in your business. Please consider working on your menu to produce more flavorful dishes and invest in tea cozies. This is the only tea room I've ever visited that does not have tea cozies. The cost for lunch for two people with tip was over $60. Had it arrived in a timely manner and tasted really good, we would have considered it a good value, but it just wasn't. Also, please talk to your Web people, I received 6 requests to submit comments for this one reservation. Not a big deal, but it might aggravate some people. We'd like to come back, but please accept this review from someone who's visited before and sees a need for tasty food delivered quickly.

As always, service is superb and ambiance is superb. I bring all of my out-of-town guests to Polly Claire's. Food is always excellent and well presented. We were disappointed in the crab cakes which were very strong tasting which is why I only gave a 9 instead of a 10 in my rating.

This place was amazing! Down to the cute decorations, amazing tea and food, but most importantly, the staff. My server was patient, walked me through how everything worked and gave me recommendations on the teas I might enjoy based on what I was telling her. The good was delicious and beautifully presented. We also really enjoyed the tea. While our waitress was friendly, the service was very slow. We waited almost 10 minutes for her to come to the table after being seated and it was slow throughout our stay. Otherwise it was very nice.

My mother and I celebrated our September birthdays together at Polly Claire's. Everything was perfect! The ambiance is always so nice! The tea and food were perfect for our special lunch. We missed the pretty hats, but understand for now during Covid they need to be put away. We always enjoy this beautiful Tea Room! Bethany did a great job taking care of us!

This is the third time in a year and a half for my daughter and me to visit Polly Claire’s, and we had a very good time. We have been there once with just the two of us, once with four of us, and this time with six of us.
MINUSES:
The food is a bit pricey for what you get, but it is still one of our several favorite places for a special outing. Unfortunately, we can’t go very often.
PLUSSES:
We love the overall experience and the ambiance.
Your servers have been wonderful: Polite, friendly, helpful, informative.
We like the laid back atmosphere and the un-crowdedness.
The best thing you have is the lobster bisque.

This was our third visit and very disappointing. While the house was decorated for Christmas, the tables were not. The tea we chose was delicious, but because it was just placed on the table without a flame, it became cool after we sat for an hour. The pot of tea was not included in the cost of the "holiday tea", so we were both charged $4.50 for the one pot. The three tiered tea plate was scantily covered with finger sandwiches and baked goodies which I found surprising when you consider it cost $37. I had expected more at that price. Another member of my party ordered from the menu and found that the quiche and chicken salad were quite bland in flavor. This tea for two cost $70 when the tip was added onto the bill. On a positive note, our server was fantastic! She had an engaging personality and was a very efficient server. In addition, the vanilla scone served at the beginning of the tea was the best scone we had ever eaten.
